Sony’s PlayStation Portable was a technical marvel when it launched in 2005, bringing near-PlayStation 2-quality gaming to a handheld. With Provenance, you can bring that library to your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV — playing God of War: Chains of Olympus, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Persona 3 Portable, and dozens of other standout PSP titles.

Provenance is free, open-source, and available directly from the App Store with no jailbreak required.

Supported File Formats

PSP games are distributed as disc images or compressed archives. Provenance supports the primary PSP formats:

  • .iso — Standard UMD disc image, the most common format for PSP backups
  • .cso — Compressed ISO format; reduces file sizes significantly while remaining broadly compatible
  • .pbp — PlayStation Portable executable package format, used for digital and download releases

CSO compression is a practical choice for PSP games, which tend to be large and benefit from the space savings on mobile storage.

Features

Playing PSP games in Provenance gives you access to the full suite of emulator features:

  • Save States — Save at any moment, supplementing the PSP’s own save system for extra flexibility
  • Controller Support — Full analog stick support via MFi, Xbox, and PlayStation controllers, closely matching the PSP’s original control layout; on-screen touch controls also available
  • Shader Support — Visual filters and upscaling options to enhance PSP graphics on modern high-resolution displays
  • Cheat Codes — Cheat code support for PSP titles
  • Fast Forward — Speed through cutscenes or slower segments
  • On-Screen Controls — Customizable touch overlay for playing without a physical controller
