Provenance brings Sony’s original PlayStation to iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. The PS1 era produced some of the most iconic games in history — Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and hundreds more — and Provenance lets you play them all on your Apple device for free.

Available directly from the App Store, Provenance is open-source and requires no jailbreak. Just add your own PlayStation disc images and start playing.

Supported File Formats

PlayStation games were disc-based, so Provenance supports several disc image formats:

  • .bin / .cue — The most common PS1 dump format; keep both files together
  • .iso — Standard disc image format
  • .img — Alternate disc image format
  • .pbp — PSP-style compressed PlayStation archives
  • .chd — Compressed Hunks of Data format, greatly reduces file size while preserving disc accuracy

For multi-disc games, Provenance handles disc switching so you can continue your save across discs.

Features

  • Save States — Save anywhere, not just at in-game memory card screens
  • Memory Card Emulation — Virtual memory card support for games that use the PS1’s built-in save system
  • Controller Support — Full DualShock-style analog support via MFi, Xbox, and PlayStation controllers; on-screen controls for touchscreen play
  • Shader Support — Apply CRT filters to replicate the visual style of original PlayStation hardware
  • Cheat Codes — GameShark code support for PS1 titles
  • Fast Forward — Skip cutscenes or accelerate through slower sections
